Description

Callistemon 'Little John' is an attractive dwarf bottlebrush shrub with blue-green leaves that contrast nicely with the deep, blood red bristled flowers that appear in summer but may bloom throughout the year. The densely branched compact evergreen attracts hummingbirds and bees and is the perfect fit in most gardens. Tolerates seaside conditions but is ideal in an inland garden. Drought tolerant once fully established but performs best with some irrigation. Use in containers, an accent plant, a low-medium height formal hedge, or informal border.

Plant Care

Thrives in average, lightly acidic, well-drained soil; avoid alkaline soils. Water deeply, regularly during first growing season to establish an extensive root system; reduce frequency once established. More drought tolerant in coastal areas; less tolerant in hot, arid regions. Apply fertilizer in early spring. Prune to shape after flowering.
