Description

Juncus patens 'Elk Blue' is a selection of California Gray Rush that has very narrow, rounded, blue-grey stems. This stiffly upright, evergreen grass-like plant adds a fine texture to the garden. Brown clusters of tiny inconspicuous flowers appear in summer. Elk Blue California Gray Rush is widely adaptable to a variety of habitats and soils. Plant alongside ponds, streams, or in containers where it will get regular water or in a dry shade garden where it is drought tolerant once established. Useful in bioswales or rain gardens planted in mass, border, or as an accent.

Plant care

Adapts to most soil types. Grows in full sun with evenly moist soil or in dry shade. Tolerates dry conditions when established. Water deeply to establish roots then reduce frequency as needed. Slowly spreads by underground rhizomes; plant in a container to control spread.
