    Description

    The attractive reddish bark and clusters of small, pendulous urn-shaped flowers are characteristic of these evergreen California natives. Arctostaphylos manzanita 'Dr. Hurd' is a large shrub or small tree with white flowers and light green leaves on upward branches. The smooth, muscular, mahogany-colored trunks with twisted branches gives this manzanita a sculptural appearance. Tolerates regular garden care.

    Plant care

    Tolerates poor soils but requires excellent drainage. Water regularly after planting until roots are established then reduce frequency. Regular pruning is not required but a light tip prune of new spring growth will encourage branching and result in denser growth.
